SPECIAL WIRE.
WELLINGTON, Jan. 3. The Mayor to-day received a telegram from the Secretary of the seamen's strike in Sydney announcing the termination of the strike, stating that no more subscriptions were required, and expressing thanks for the sum sent. A Post special gives the following as the terms of settlement : — Sydney, Jan. 3. "The great anti-Chinese strike has been settled at last through Mr Lockhead. The terms of arrangement which have been agreed to by directors of the A.S.N. Company on the one hand and the malcontent seamen on the other are as follows : — (1.) All men are to return, as far as possible, to their former positions in the service of the Company. (2.) The Company are to retain the services of 180 Chinese, which number is to be reduced to 120 within a period of three months from Jan. 1, 1879. (3.) All wages due on Nov. 18 to the men who were on strike to be paid in full by the Company. (4.) Sliip's discharges in the customary form to be given in all cases where it may be found necessary. An agreement embodying these terms has been formally received by the representatives on both sides, and the men will return to work immediately."
