She sails for Melbourne and Hobart Town via South to-day. The 8.8. Maori sailß for Northern ports this after- %< Th 9 Alert from Picton, and Clio from Anahau, arrived this morning. The Gleaner, brigantine, for Melbourne, and Spray, schooner, for Wellington, sailed to-day. The s.B. Taranaki, Captain Malcolm, left Manakau at 10 a.m. on July 16, crossed the bar at 11.30 a.m., reached Taranaki at 1 a.m. next day, sailed at 4p.m., made Nelson at 7.30 a.m. on Thursday. Left at 10.30 a.m., fetched Wellington at 9 p.m., sailed at 4 » m on Friday, and anchored in harbour at 8.30 am. on Saturday. Had fresh southerly winds to Nelson, light easterly winds and heavy sea across tke Straits, thence strong southerly winds and head sea. to arrival. The Taranaki sailed for Port Chalmers at 4.10 p.m. on Saturday. We thank Mr lennedy, her purser, for files. The brigantine signalled on Friday proved to be tke Camille, from the Bluff, with timber. The Camille a handsome French-built vessel, came to the Bluff from New York, and having landed her cargo of notions, &o. there, filled up with timber for here Captain Craig reports leaving the Bluff on Tuesday, and having light aoutn-weet -weather a» the coast to Friday morning, when the veßsel was off the Heads all day, there being no wind. The brigantine arrived at an anchorage oil the breakwater at 7 a.m. yesterday. The Camille is advertised for freight or charter. . The s 8. Tararua, Captain Sinclair, left Sandridge railway pier at 11.30 a.m. on July 10. Passed Swan Island at 12.30 p.m July 11, Cape Pillar at 7.30 a.m. July 12, and reached Hobart Town at 11.30 a.m., having had fresh head wind across. Embarked a large quantity of cargo and the International Circus troupe, and sailed at 8 p.m. same day. Had fresh, westerly winds across to passing the Solanders at 9 a.m. July 16. Eeaohed the Bluff at 10 a.m. ; sjdlad at 3 30 p.m. July 17, and arrived at Port Chalmers at daylight on July 18. Landed 230 tons •f cargo, the Cirous Company, &c, and 160 rams, aad Bailed for this port at 4.30 p.m., arriving in k&rbour at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Discharged 40 t*os of cargo, and sailed north at 5 pm. on Saturday We are indebted to Mr Birch, her purser, for 21m. The Union Company's s.s. Maori, Capt. Berniche, arrived from Dunedin yesterday, havinp made another round trip of the Island from that port in sine days. She experienced some rough weather down the Weat Coast, and did not arrive at Big Bay till July 16, having left Donedia on July 7. There gke found the few settlers in a state of great excitement consequent upon the discovery of several bodies of residents who had been untortuBately drowned while running from Jackson Bay in. a heavily-laden boat. She left again at 11 a.m. came day, and proceeded to Martin Bay, and on reaching it found a heavy sea i oiling in at the entrance to the bar at the river. Signals were made from the pilot station ordering her to run across to the south side of the bay, which she did, and anchored. A boat was lowered and pulled for the shore, taking the mails, cargo, &c. ; and although t&ere was a heavy Bea rolling on the beach, the party landed withno mischance.save agood ducking. After taking on board Mrs Yell and her four children (the -widow and children of one of the poor fellows who was drowned), she pushed off for the ship, getting through the surf with, great difficulty, and finally reaching the Maori at 3.30 p.m. ; thence sh« pushed •n for Caswell Sound, and reached there at mid Bight ; steamed down the Sound at dawn on July 17 • landed the marble prospectors, and left at 9 a.m. for Preservation Inlet; experienced light head winds, with a heavy swell, and reached the Inlet at 7 p.m. ; left again at 9 p.m., and reached Bluff Harbour at 7 a.m. on the 18th ; discharged a quantity of coal, took in cargo for Dunedin, and sailed again at 4.35 p.m. ; had moderate winds, with fine weather, and reached Port Chalmers at daylight on Friday. The Maori left Dunedin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, and Port Chalmers at 1.30 p.m., reached Akaroa at 7.30 a.m. yesterday ; sailed at 10.30 a.m., and arrived in harbour at 3 p.m. Had moderate head winds and sea up the coast. She sails for Northern ports to-day. We are indebted to Mr Bobertson, her purser, for files. The barque Clifton is to leave Hobart Town for this port on or about July H. ,-„,,. The brigantine Harah Pile tbat reached Wellingtta on Thursday from Kaipara, reports the Torea, schooner, having left for this port.
