«. — , — [Per Greville's Telegram Compant, Redter's Aqents."| Wellington, Jan. 17, 11.25 a.m. Mr Fitzherbert has been elected for the Hutt. A telegram was received yesterday by the Government, from Mr Ormon I, conveying the intelligence that the Ngatiraukawa, at Waikato, with all the principal chiefs, hare joined the Taupo friendly natives, and will work at the road by Neho-o-te-Kiore, and carry it through. These people say they have renounced t*ie King and all his works, and joined the Queen's side, and that they will promote our work in future. These natives come from Pdtetere, Waitoa, and other settlements close to Waikato, and hmre always hitherto been strong King men. Their joining us is considered an event of no ordinary significance. It is considered that their adhesion will stop any attempt on the part of Waikato against the road works now : in progress, and that it will presently open up the country to Cambridge, for road and telegraph extension.
