j Tim-abu, Oct, 22, 2.20 p.m. Much satisfaction is expressed here afc the decision of the Provincial Council regarding the South, and the action of the Southern members is highly commended. Auckland, Oct. 21, Via Nelson, Oct. 23. Yogel haa accepted the requisition, signed by 300 voters, for the City of Auckland East. Mr Clarke haa since withdrawn from the contest. Mr Vogel's return is considered certain. Mr Kelly is the only candidate in the field for the East Coast. It is supposed that Mr Gillies will come forward for Eranklin. It is reported that Mr John Williamson intends to relinquish his Government appointment, and come forward for the City West. Mr Dignan offers himself for the same ward. A seaman fell from the main yard of fche Blanche and waa killed. 5000 ounces of gold have been received from the Thames during the week. A bed of lignite coal has been discovered at Grahamstown. General and Lady Chute arrived by the Hero from Melbourne, en route for England. Chang, the giant, has been engaged at the Prince of Wales theatre. George Cox, an old settler at Waiuku, is missing. No Hau-haus were present at the Native Lands Court, Ohinemuri. The cases were further adjourned. Mr Binney sold at auction, ex late arrivals from the south : — wheat at 5s 6d to 5s lld ; barley, 3s ; bran, ls ld ; potatoes, £5 • flour, £14< 5s to £14 15s.
