'■ •."•-.. - - ■♦ A CORRECTION. 1 . TO THE EDITOR OF THE STAR. Sik,— ln the Resident Magistrate's Court* published in your Saturday's issue, Sergeant Pardy, during the hearing of the case against the boy Harrop, states " that he lived near the boy Smith, and that he was an associate of his." lhe former portion of the sentence is substantially correct, but the latter I most emphatically deny. My boy (as Harrop will testify) has never been on terms of intimacy or an associate of his ; therefore I think it is very unjust and unfair for such an assertion to have been made in open court by that officer. As to the bojs living near each other, I ask is that a crime or disgrace ? If so, the sooner the myrmidons of the law, and those under their charge, are placed in detached buildings, lhe better it will be for the moral character of the former. Until this unfortunate postoffice affair occurred, my child's character for honesty and good behaviour was unblemished. He has hitiierto been a leading scholar iv his school, and his general good conduct has won. for him numerous tokens of respect, as I shall be able to prove. As this assertion might possibly lead to an erroneous impression, I beg of you to allow me to contradict the same. Your obedient servant, W. H. SMITff. April 19, 1869,
