KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL MEETING,

Wednksday, March 24,

Present: The Mayor, Councillors Newnham, Birch, Oram, Dudley, Hall, and Middleton.

A letter was read from Mr W. H. Wynn Williams, Provincial Solicitor, reporting the result of the application for a new trial, made by Mr Travers, on the Council's behalf, on Tuesday last. A letter from Mr M. Lynskey, poundkeeper, to the Government, regarding the state of the pound, referred to the Council by the Government, was also read. Consideration deferred till next meeting.

The Council went into committee to consider Mr Williams' letter. After some discussion,

Councillor Birch moved, and Councillor Newnham seconded — " That this Council does not see any reason, as yet, why the action of the law advisers to the Council should be interfered with." Carried unanimously

Councillor Newnham moved, and Councillor Dudley seconded — cf That a committee be appointed to consider the subject of repairing the present bridge ; to confer with the contractor for the new. bridge as to the terms on which he would cancel .his contract; to consider the financial position of the Council; and to report at the ordinary meeting of the Council on Tuesday next ; the committee to consist of the Mayor, Councillors Newnham, and Birch." Carried. The Council then, resumed, when it was resolved—" That, the resolutions passed in committee be adopted." ' '

Councillor Birch gave notice of motion for next meeting. •■<*'•' ■'' < •' The Clerk reported- ;that -the Provincial Auditor, Mr >Ollivier, . iiad examined the accounts.

The Council then adjourned till Tuesday next.
