[BY ELEOTBIC TELEGfEA_?n.] Wellington, Jan. 26, 7.45 p.m. Colonel Haultain is absent on a tour through the Waikato and the northern districts. The Assembly will not be called together till after the departure of the Duke of Edinburgh from the colony. He is expected to arrive early in April, and to remain two months. H.M.S. Blanche arrived to-day. Left Wanganui on Friday, called at Patea, went on to Taranaki, then back to Wanganui, where she fired a gun, but did not communicate with the shore. The Militia Office was broken into last night, and Colonel Eeader's cash box, containing £50 and valuable papers, were stolen. The box was below a window, so that the thief had*, only to break a pane of glass and put, in his hand. The box was found' broken open, and two men have been arrested. A portion of the stolen property was found on one of them. The Wanganui coach has just arrived ; there is nothing important. Those best informed do not expect Colonel Whitmore to commence active
operations till the end of the present week. Grovernor Hunia's son has been ; married to a daughter of Captain Kemp (Kepa). The Tararua sails at midnight for Melbourne, via West Coast.
