CRICKET.

H * — J** The annual match between the Fellows and .Boys of the College was played on the U.C.C.C. ground yesterday, and resulted in one of the closest contests we have seen in Canterbury? The Fellows were first to appear at the stumps, and succeeded in running up a good total before the last man was dismissed. Messrs H. Ward and J. Field contributed greatly by good and occasionally scientific play to this result, whilst the Boys were somewhat loose in the field, and permitted an unusually large number of extras to be recorded. The bowling of Fenwick was, however, a good redeeming point, and altogether, the support awarded him in the attack upon an opposing team was very creditable. The Boys on taking to the bat, displayed from the first a determination not to be beaten, and every chance for sending the ball away was taken advantage.of with a will. Perhaps this resulted to some 'extent in a little wild play, and the consequent rapid disposal of some of the team, but any loss in this respect was remedied by the luck attending C. Fenwick, who made the score of the day. His play was undoubtedly of "a very creditable nature, but good fortune materially aided hina in retaining his bat so long. When the ninth man went in the score stood at 98, and the excitement became very great, the agreement being to decide the match on the first innings. The Fellows adopted the most careful tactics to prevent their score being topped, but notwithstanding all their 'efforts, the last stump was not lowered until a majority of one had been obtained over them. The result was hailed with some considerable applause, andf the following are the detailed scores : — Vw-~-The Fellows. Rev C. Bowen, b Rutherford ... ... 1 T. Qqndell, b Fenwick j H.
