RAILWAY FREE PASSES. TO THE EDITOR OF THB STAR. Sir, — In reference to the free passes on the railway, I think the enclosed letters may not be out of place. We all know that petty jurors are chosen from a class to whom attending at (vhristehurch from day to day is a serious expense, and they are bound to go or be fined. The parties to whqni the privilege is proposed to be given ""are not so, and if they were, they could better afford to pay for it, as we all know they do a little business on their own account. Your obedient servant, CHAS. LITTLECOTT.

Lyttelton, 19th August, 1868. Sir,— l am summoned to the Supreme Court on the Ist as petty juror. As the loss of time and other expenses arc a great inconvenience to a great many petty jurors, I beg to submit to your Honor that they should have a free pass by the railway during the time they are attending the Supreme Court. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your obedient servant, Chas. Littlecott. His Honor the Deputy Superintendent, Christchurch. Provincial Secretary 'a Office, Christchurch, 2 1 at August, 1868. Sir, — I am directed by his Honor the Deputy Superintendent to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 19th inst., in reference to petty jurors from Lyttelton having a free pass during the time they are attending the Supreme Court ; and in reply to inform you that the Government cannot make the exception in regard to the travelling expenses of Lytelton jurors.
