7 •"> CHRISTCHURCH. This Dat. (Before C. C. Bowen, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. — Lucy Potter and Jane Crawford were brought up in custody charged with this offence. From the evidence of Constable O'Connor, it appeared that between six and seven o'clock last night, the two pri- . soners were in Manchester street in a beastly state of intoxication, and when spoken to, Crawford became very -violent, and used most disgusting and abominable language. Neither of the prisoners denied the charge, nor made auy statement in extenuation of their guilt. In reply to the Bench, Sergt. Pardy said when last dismissed from the court, Crawford was taken to her friend's house by a constable, but broke loose again within two days, and commenced drinking and carrying on as bad as ever. His Worship fined the prisoner Potter 10s, as it was her first offence of the kind, but he said he had given Crawford every chance to amend, and he must now commit her as he had threatened to do when last brought before him. She had been convicted on eight previous occasions for gross misconduct, and she would now be sentenced to three months' imprisonment, with hard labour. Affiliation Case.— Samuel Skelling appeared in answer to a summons for being tlie father of the illegitimate child of —Dale. He admitted the charge, and expressed a desire to compromise the case. Complainant would not, however, accept his terms, and he was ordered to pay at the rate of 10s per week for the support of the child. Mr Wynn Williams appeared for the complainant.
