Wednesday, Nov. 11. Present: The Mayor, Councillors Middleton, Porter, Dudley, Dram, mid Birch. The minutes of the last meeting, ami outward correspondence, were read and approved. Letters were read;— From theChustchurch City Council, acknowledging receipt of the Council's letter of the 3rd hiac. From the Press Agency office, applying for leave to attach a branch pipe to the well in Cookson Street. Councillor Birch moved, and Councillor Dudley seconded, '"That Mr J. L. Wilson's application be referred to the Public Works Committee." — Carried. The Public Works Committee's report was then read. It stated that, in accordance with A resolution of the Council, they had cause- 1 the timler and palings on the North Road to be collected and stacked in the Council yard. They had found it necessary to put some new planking on Ihe bridge. They also recommended that the closet attached to the tollhouse fchould be repnired and removed to a better situation. They had no objection to

granting the request of the Manager of' the Bank of New Zealand, that a branch pipe might be laid into the bank premise* from Cookcon street. The report was adopted. On Councillor Dudley's motion, Mr Boddingtcn's application was granted. The Clerk reported a balance to the credit of the Council Bt the br\nk of £50 18s 4d. Councillor Birch aske-1 how much rates had been collected tinceUst meeting. The C'erk said flint those that were left would not he got in without summoning. Councillor Newnhtm moved, and Councillor Birch seconded, " That an ndv«rtiisement be inserted to the effect that all rates not paid by the 30th inst. would be «ued for without further notice." Carried. The Clerk's report was adopted. Councillor Birch moved, and Councillor Newnham seconded, " That the Clerk get a lease executed between the Council and Mr Johnson for the bridge." Councillors Newnhnm and Gram were appointed the Public Works Committee for the ensuing month. Councillor Birch moved, and it was carried, "That all tenders advertised for by the Council must be sent in by 6 p.m. on the day appointed, otherwiie not to be received." Carried. Councillor Birch moved and Councillor Middleton secon-led, " That the Msiyor and Clerk be empowered to affix ihe scat of rht Council to a deed granting a lease of one of the river reserve* to Mr John Matthew*." Carried. Councillor Porter applied, on behalf of Mr Matthews, for leave to sub-let the same to Mr W. D. Buddie. Granted.
