— [BT SUBMAItrNE TELEGIUJH.] Wellington, Nov. 8, 5.20 p.m. Titokowaru's main body seems to have retired to a strong position at Okutuku, between Whenuakura and Waitotara rivers. The advance party is still hovering about Wureroa ; they can be seen erecting a pah about threequarters of a mile distant. The Chronicle urges Colonel Whitmore to act on the defensive only, until reinforced, adding "we can afford to wait, but we cannot afford another defeat." The cavalry volunteers have returned. The second quota of Wanganui Militia has started to reinforce their comrades at Wereroa redoubt. .^CRees states that after he and .Richards were taken prisoners, a consultation took place among the Hau-hiiua to determine the fate of the prisoners, when the cries and intercession of a little Maori girl, whom they knew, aaved them.
