OUR MARKET DAY.

TO THH EDITOR OP TOE STAR. Sir, — It is quite time that the public opinion be ascertained whether or not it is desirable to change our present Market-day. I am, therefore, glad to find that it is proposed at once to hold a public meeting to discus the question, and I hope to see a full

attendance, both of country and towns-people, who have any argument to advance either for or against an alteration being made in the day. For my own part, I think a change is absolutely necessary, and that immediately. Our banks, lawyers, wholesale houses, &c, have for several years past adopted Saturday afternoon as a half-holiday ; and we find, within the la»t few weeks, that other professions and trades have followed, and are still intending to follow their example. In the face of this, it will therefore be a mere farce to call Saturday the Market-day. I know that it is thought by many that the country people will be averse to any change, hut I may say I have been at some little trouble to ascertain the opinion of farmers and others on the subje t, and have found without exception that they are anxio is that some other day (Friday generally preferred') should be substituted, and publicly proclaimed as tlie Market-day. Your obedient servant, ADVANCE.
