New Bowling Green For Te Puke

PROPOSED METHODS TO CARRY OUT WORK POSSIBILITIES OF ESTABLISHING SECOND GREEN Con veiled mainly to deal with recommendations made by fellow bowlers at the annual meeting and in particular to investigate the possibilities of establishing a second green on the club s property in tlie near future, a recent meeting of the executive committee of the Te Puke Bowling Club was attended by Messrs D. Lawrense (chairman), L. Manning, Spencer, I. Cubit, C. Donovan, A. Ivelsall, and the secretary (Mr V. An tram).

The secretary was instructed to write a letter of sincere appreciation to Mr C. Chester in view of his recent retirement after many years of untiring service, from the post of green superinn tendent. Mr Chester will also be cordially invited to attend a presentation ceremony in his honour at the opening day of next season.

It was resolved that a certain local mercer be requested to reserve blazers for the club and that in. future, instead of the usual monogram, the name “Te Puke" would appear on the pocket and the club hat band.

The secretary was also given authority to have a notice board, incorporating visitors’ fees, displayed prominently in the pavilion. The rules permitted a visitor to use the greem free of charge for the first week, but thereafter he was liable to a levy of 5/- per wek or 1/a day or part thereof. .. Much interest was evinced by the meeting in the matter of the new green. The chairman' submitted rough drafts of the soil to be shifted according to the various proposed methods of tackling the job. Following considerable discussion, it was decided to communicate with the Ohope, Raglan, and Mount Maunganui Clubs requesting information with regard to the laying of new greens, under the headings of cost, amount of voluntary labour, and size of position.
