RAILWAY HUT GUTTED BY FIRE
OUTBREAK IN TE PUKE LAST EVENING A railway hut in the Te Puke station yard was gutted by fire at about 8.45 last night. First noticed by a resident in Belvedere Street, Mr Ivan Cubitt, the alarm was given immediately, but the hut was blazing furiously, and only the charred walls remained after the blaze had been extinguished. The Fire Brigade was promptly on the scene and prevented other huts from being damaged. The hut was occupied by a railway ganger, Tony Nathan, who was attending the pictures when the alarm was given. Although the cause of the outbreak is not known, it is thought that it started with some fat catching alight in the small stove. The occupant of the hut suffered a complete loss of personal belongings, these either being burned or completely ruined by smoke and water.
