FACILITIES ON BUS ROUTES TOO FEW
NEW VEHICLES WANTED ON LONGER SERVICES
That the types of passenger buses used on the longer runs in the Tauranga district were below the standard of those of private companies and/ those used in other districts was, alleged by the president (Mr M. E. Dervan) at a meeting of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce. The paucity of rest room facilities afforded on routes and bus drivers' neglect to indicate them at stoppages was also deplored by some of the members.
A resolution, was passed that the Minister of Public Works (Mr Semple) should be written pointing out the obsolesence of the buses and the number of breakdowns which occurred.
The Hon. W. E. Barnard, addressed the meeting on the necessity of bus drivers , to '■ indicate rest rooms (conveniences) for the use of passengers on the longer services.
On the first issue—the old buses employed on some services —the president moved that the chamber write to the appropriate Minister imploring him not to overlook the claims of Tauranga services, especially the one to Auckland, in the allocation of new buses, Tire motion was carried.
In connection with the desirability of drivers to make adequate announcement of the whereabouts of rest rooms on bus routes, a motion to this effect was passed, and a . resolution carried that the chamber inform the Minister of Works of the lack of sufficient facilities on bus routes in the district.
