A N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP

POLE VAULT TO DOUG EARP

Congratulations are extended to Doug Earp, younger son of Mr and Mrs H. W. Earp, of Te Puke, who won a title at the New Zealand Junior athletic championships at Wellington. He is a member of the Te Puke Amateur Atthletic Club and competed in the pole vault for the Waikato championship at Paeroa. The Club was so impressed that they volunteered to send him to Wellington. It is. just as well they did this as the Waikato Centre notified later that they would nominate him but he would have to pay his own expenses. Earp, who is now attending Auckland University, is a steady all-round-er, but has proved to be “one out of the box” with his pole vaulting. He cleared 10ft at Wellington, a considerable improvement on his winning jump at Paeroa. It is good to know that the Te Puke Club has been able to do some good and the success will be a further spur to its future activities. A Club run will be held on Monday evening,, children commencing at 5 o'clock, with seniors a little later. On current form we have several potential champions in the making.
