PIG MARKETING

PROGRESS OF ASSOCIATION FINAL PAYMENT OF £16,935* “In spite of the fall in New Zealand’s pig production, last season amounting to 110,CCO pigs, this association has had a most successful year,” states Mr VV. A. Phillips, chairman of the New Zealand. Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, in his monthly message to shareholders. “The company handled 127,825 pigs and 239,000 calves during the year and had a gross turnover of over £600,000. .

“Notwithstanding the continued r'se in costs,’l said Mr Phillips, “our-oper ations during the year have show i a very small rise on that of last year, the increase being 2 per cent compared with 2. IS per cent last year. For pigs and bobby calves handled during the year, the company has made a total cash distribution ot over £394,096, and there is still availaole for final payment' a surplus in excess of £16,935. This final payment will be made to suppliers towards the end of July.. “The company s subscribed capital now stands at over £31,431, 4.123 additional shares having been applui lor and allotted during the past season. The company’s paid up capital is increased to £9,5-33. Of the subsidiary companies the Kiwi Bacon Company had a net' turnover of £125.000, the net. profit being £2637. During the year we have been, able to further strengthen our local 'market , outlets for our baconer supplies by acquiring control of the bacon factory of Messrs Fiiites, Limited, of Christhurch. “The prospects for another, successful year in the bobby calf section are very bright and we are already assured of handling a greater number of pools than last year. Owing to: the obscurity ol the skin market, the season's prospects for that product are still indefinite, but from present local conditions it would . appear that values; at least as favourable as those ruling last year will be realised.”
