YOUNG FARMERS

PAENGAROA BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Paengaroa Young Farmers’ Club, was held in the Hall on Tuesday, 4th July. There was a:i attendance of 37 members, the Chairman, Mr A. Walter, presiding. Associated with him were Mr 'J. B. Cawte, Advisory President, and Mr C. Riddell, Secretary. Four new members, Messrs G Spratt, T. ‘Nelson, J. Voltz, and A. Boyd, were enrolled The profits of the recent dance which amounted to £9 4s, will be paid to the Hall Society in accordance with its arrangements with the Club; • Arrangement s for entertaining the Northland Young Farmers at luncheon ou the 6th were finalised.

It was decided to hold a compliment,, ary social next month to celebrate the Club’s third birthday. 7 - ;vl

Captain Yeoman and Lieutenant Santon, of the Auckland East Coast Mounted Rifles, addressed members on New Zealand’s defence, and the expansion of the Territorial army. 7; V

Apologies for absence , were received from Messrs T. Galpin, V. Benner, L. Ashe, P. Hickson and J. Nix. Mr D. S. Ross, Chairman of the Western Bay .of Plenty, and Auckland Council Young Farmers' Clubs, addressed members. Mr Ross said that some time ago he intimated at a District Committee meeting his desire to make some personal award to the member who had rendered the movement in the Bay cf Plenty the best service. After careful consideration he had decided to make the award to Mr Eddie Blackmjv*, lat? Chairman of the Paengaroa Club, and member of the District Committee and Auckland Council Young Fame s’ Club. Mr Ross then presented to Mj* Black • more, four volumes of Everyman’s Encyclopedia. Mr Blackmore, in thanking Mr R ifs, said . that the Young Farmers’ Club movement had been of wonderful benefito him. .

The Northland, Young Farmers’ Club touring party were entertained at luncheon at the Paengaroa Hall on Thursday. A welcome was extended by Mr B. Walters. Other speakers ' were Mr lnnes Vercoe, Mr J. Brown (Mayor of To Puke), Mr Ross and Mr Cawte. Mr Walker, secretary of the touring party, suitably replied. Later the party inspected the piggeries on Mr Ross’ farm.
