SAD MOTORING FATALITY

MARRIED WOMEN KILLED THREE OTHERS INJURED * A very sad fatality occurred on the Te Puke-Whakatane road on Sunday morning about 10 o’clock when a Morris car skidded on the greazy road near the Pukehina bridge and capsized, killing one of the occupants and injuring three others. The killed «md injured were: —

KILLED Glayds Greenwood, aged 43, wife of Mr E. Greenwood, of Waihi. INJURED Aubrey Greenwood, son of Mr 9 Greenwood, of Waihi. L. Berryman, of Waihi. Mnriel Meadows, of Huntly. The party left Waihi early on Sunday morning to visit Mrs Haywood, of Whakatane, sister of Mrs Greenwood. After overtaking and passing another car the Morris Struck a greasy piece of road, and skidded, the vehicle turning oyer several times before coming to rest. All the occupants were rendered unconscious. Assistance from the occupants of tFe other car was quickly forthcoming, and it was found that Mrs Greenwood was dead, being badly crushed on the head ?nd chest. The son Aubrey, who had been driving, had severe gashes on the head and his left foot cut; Mr Berryman received severe abrasions on the face, and Miss Muriel Meadows bruises and shock. While awaiting the arrival of Dr. Randell and the police the injured were taken in hand by Nurse Horne, who rendered first aid and made them as comfortable as possible. Afterwards the body was brought to Te Puke, and the injured were attended to by Dr. Randell. The relatives of deceased arrived in the early afternoon and took the body through to Waihi. An inquest was held on Sunday afternoon before Mr H. Cuff, District Coroner.

Deceased was the second daughter of Mrs S. Hollis, of Waihi, and was prominent in golf circles throughout the province. She was the lady champion of the Waihi club for the past six years and had taken part in Dominion championship meetings on several occasions. She was also secretary of the Thames Valley Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union.
