PAPAMOA

A very enjoyable afternoon was spent recently, the occasion being the Papamoa W.I. birthday party. Mrs R. McNaughton presided over a fair number of members and friends.

After welcoming the visitors Mrs Reid led the Community singing. A Monte Carlo Waltz followed, Whicht’was won by Mrs Bennet and Mrs J. McLeod. A guessing competition was won by Mrs Mossop, and a musical parcel by Mrs Reid.

Afternoon tea was served by the Committee. Mrs McNaughton then asked the oldest member to cut the birthday cake, made by Mrs Riddle, Mrs Crnden (Tauranga) to light the candles and Mrs McDowell to extinguish them. A very enjoyable afternoon tea brought to a close a most enjoyable afternoon, everyone joining in singing, “God Save our King.”

PAENGAROA

The Paengaroa Women’s Institute met on 21st July, Mrs MacDowell presiding over a good attendance of members. It was intimated that Paengaroa Institute had been successful in winning the Rose Bowl at the Group Drama Competition at Te Puke, and also taken second place in the Drama Festival at Tauranga, losing by one point only.

The Institute’s Banner was on view, having been completed by Mr 3 Snodgrass, to whom thanks are due, and also to Mrs W. Riddell for material chosen. Mrs Wilson read a paper on National Health Insurance, prepared by the W.E.A. which was much appreciated. The roll call, “Something I want to know,” was well responded to. It was agreed that the competitions for the Birthday Party on 25th July shall be sponge sandwich and a Buttonhole.

A Bring and Buy Stall was held on behalf of the Plnnket Society. Mrs Riddell’s competition was won by Miss Mundtßest bloom was won by Mrs Gulliver 1, Miss Sylvia Spratt 2 ; Knitting bag, Miss I. MacDowell 1, Miss Annie Riddell 2 ; Ginger Bread, Mrs Riddell 1, Mrs Collins 2. The Hostesses were Mrs Hintz and Miss Spratt.
