Papamoa Women's Institute

The monthly meeting of the Papamoa Women’s Institute was held last Thursday. Mrs Bear presided, and Mrs Teague very ably fulfilled the duties of secretary owing to the absence of Mrs R. McNaughton, who as delegate, attended tne Whakatane executive meeting,

The motto for the month was, “The great thing to learn of life, is not to be afraid of it.” (Jerome K. Jerome). Members met earlier than usual to enable them to discuss the Conference resolutions, which take place at Wellington, in July next. Mrs Churcher was appointed delegate to attend same. After business ahd correspondence was dealt with, members stood in silence, as a mark of sympathy with Mrs Reid, who Was recently bereaved of a sister. It was decided to send Mrs Reid a letter of condolence. It was also decided that a small presentation bo made from the gardening circle to Mrs Peake, who is about to leave the district, Two new members wore welcomed.

A song by Miss Leonardo earned a well deserved encore, and a recitation by Mrs Churcher was much appreciated. The Roll Call, “Recipes 1 ' proved vefy popular. A points Competition resulted as follows : (l) “Jar of autumn leaves,” Mrs Churcher 1, Mrs Peck 2 1 Sponge Cake, Mrs Peek 1, Miss Bear 2 i Handcraft and Thrift Articles for competition are to be sent to the Whakatane Winter Show It Was resolved that ‘Bring and Buy’funds, go towards the Library. Mesdames Bear and Collins were> hostesses for the afternoon.
