AT "Edingthorpe," the home of Mrs. H. Valder, the members and friends of the local branch of the G.F.S. were entertained at a pleasant evening by Mrs. H. Valder on Thursday last, The home looked very bright with lovely roses arranged about the rooms. Mrs. Valder was wearing a smart black silk gown, and was ably assisted by her daughter. Miss Molly Valder, who had on a pretty blue frock. The guests had a merry time with billiards, music, and several competitions, home, time coming all too soon. A very dainty supper was dispensed before Hie gathering broke up. . Those present were: Mesdames G. Valder, M. G. Bell. W. A. Graham, Vickery, Varnoy, and Misses Gardiner, Scherer. * Ingpen, Whitton, Buckiand, Shaugahan, Graham, Merrington; Harrison, C. Merrington. Pensshol/., McKiiight, Vnrney, Hodgson, and Burrows.
The afternoon tea given by Mi*s. Bees ton to a lnuiiber of her friends was most enjoyable. The hostess received her guests in " pretty mole grey frock, and soon had thorn busily engaged in the drawing competition. The drawing-room and large porch had lovely pink roses arranged in bowls placed about the rooms. A delightful afternoon lea was served before the party broke up.' The prize winners were Mesdames F. ' Gg> &> ■ 9> On Tuesday last Mrs. Ellicott gave an afternoon"'tea in honour of her aunt, Mrs. Bower, of Sydney. The rooms were gay with glorious sweet peas and roses, and the.rooms looked most attractive. Mrs. Ellicott was wearing a frock of floral voile. Mrs. Bower had on a soft black silk skirt and smart crepe de chine blouse. ■ « « The guests included Mesdames Oakden, Masters, Beeston, H. J. Greenslade. Mitchell, Mackay, Palmer, and Misses Oakden and Mackay. ®■. -<§9' ■■ # Miss W alln v tt, at ' 'Warwick," entertained a number of her friends at a small evening last week. Slade has left for a holiday trip to Opotiki. The, Misses Wilkie, of Auckland, have been staying with Mrs. Brewis. Mrs. Bower, of Sydney,'is on a visit to Hamilton. Mrs. T. Platt is paying a short visit to Auckland. , . Miss F. Jolly is en a visit to friends in Hamilton. Miss S. Empson is in Te Kniti, staying with Mrs-. R. Barnett at the Vicarage. „■.... , ;
