FINE weather prevailed for the final matches in the first round of the District Club Championships. At Eden Park, University failed to reach Ponsonby's first innings, totalling 402. The innings closed at 5 p.m. with a total of 207 runs, giving Ponsonby a two-point victory. Eden v. Parnell. . That match was : continued at the Remuera Ground. Eden, with a total of 389 runs, closed their innings, and Parnell was outed for 110 runs in the first innings and 156 in the second, Eden getting a three-point win by an innings and 133 runs. s * a North Shore v. Grafton. The former surprised their opponents by carrying their innings to 374 for 9 wickets, in answer to Grafton's first innings of 253, and by their disposing of Grafton within an hour for 54, getting the win by an innings and 67 runs. * * * Messrs. S. G. Smith, of Ponsonby, and. A. Player, of University, were recipients of handsome souvenirs on Saturday during an interval ©f the Ponsonby and University match in recognition of their sterling performances in the recent Plunket Shield match, Auckland v. Canterbury. Smith's big innings of 256 runs, the highest individual score to date, was recognised by the gift of a rose bowl inscribed with a record of the feat. The testimonial to Player was the last ball used in the game, a silver plate being let in, inscribed with his bowling averages. Mr. F. Earl, K.C., President of the A*.C.A.j made the presentation.
