GOD'S PART.

Thou God, of whom no man hath seen the face, Show thy strength now. The light that o'er Christ's tomb Rose in men's hearts is fading out in gloom, Quenched by a foe that mocks Thy sovereign grace. With evil powers. From out Thy secret place Shatter him, Lord, O shatter him to his doom. He calls on Thee: within fate's dredful loom Do Thou the pattern of Thine answer trace. Thus cried I in my heat, then wisdom came: God acts not but through his own creature, man,, This I remembered; and a winged flame I saw, that,- winnowed 1 by God's breath, began To mount, and slow o'er far horizons ran, To scorch from off the earth this thing of shame.
