THAMES JOCKEY CLUB AUTUMN MEETING.

The Thames Jockey Club were somewhat unfortunate over their Autumn fixture last Saturday. Rain fell in tbe forenoon, and continued till after the programme had commenced, with prejudicial effect upon tbe attendance. Except, however, that the first race was run in the rain, enjoyment of the sport was not interfered with. The jumping events were somewhat disappointing, through small fields competing and mistakes made. The Autumn Stakes appears to have been a good race. The stake went to Sweet Alice. Siren won the Railway Handicap, the most exciting contest of the day. Explosive came out a double winner — the Maiden and Hack events. Loch Fyne, winner of the Hurdles, had to beat only one competitor, English, who fell twice, ar d Pierre had nearly as easy a win in the Steeplechase. In this race Roache, who rode Ehama, had the misfortune to get severely shaken when his mount fell. The programme wound up with a win for Foremost in the Welter.

General Soult is to be thrown out of work. Apologue has been struck out of Sydney Cup. An attempt to make a jumper of Notus has failed. Maniapoto is still showing signs of soreness in his work. The Nelson Gup will be run next Wednesday, April Ist. Waitapu, winner of the Dannevirke Cup, started first favourite. Muhjeet'arising two year-old brother has been named Cronstadc. Maranui won the Warwick Farm Pace Welter at Sydney last Saturday, Wanganui Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting resulted in a profit of nearly £2000. Cross Battery appears to be moving smartly over short distances at Riocarton. Out of fifty-one horses in the W.K, Vanderbilt stable, thirty-one are two-year-olds. South Auckland Racing Club race to-morrow (Friday) and following day (Saturday). The Liverpool Grand National Steeplechase is set down for decision to-morrow (Friday). Uenuku was a starter in the Close Memorial Handicap at Napier, but could only get third. Weights for C. J.C. Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps are due to appear to-morrow (Friday). The second day's racing of the Tara. naki Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting takes place to-day (Thursday.) Acceptances for the Easter Handicap, Brighton Hurdles, and Autumn Steeplechase close to-morrow (Friday). Gravitation will run in the C.J.C. Champagne Stakes at Easter, whilst his stable mate, Elevation, will com. pete in the Fourth Manawatu Stakes. Capital entries have been received for all events at the Auckland Trotting Club's Autumn Meeting, which opens at Alexandra Park on Saturday April 4th. Letherin, who was placed kors de combat some time ago through lameness, is now being ridden, and will probably be raced towards the close of the season. An exchange states that Uhlando was quoted by the bookmakers for the Wanganui Cup at double the price he returned on the totalisator, and that a backer could easily have got £1000 at the odds. Easter Handicap, Autumn Seeeplechase ana Brighton Hurdles were declared on Monday. The handicaps are started on a fairly high scale. Marguerite 9st 41b and Zimmerman 9st lib, head the list for the Easter Handicap, /or which 44 horses are weighted. The first dozen or so horses would, make a splendid field if all started well. Kiatere has to give big weight away in the steeplechase, the nearest to him being Inniskillen, with lOat 121 b. Shrapnel is at the bead of affairs in the Brighton Hurdles, but here the. scale is not quite so high, Shrapnel's weight being list 101 b, Cuiragno having lib less.
