The farewell accorded to Madame Clara Butt when she left London last week was, according to a cablegram received by Messrs J. and N. Tait, of a most cordial reception, hundreds of her friends and acquaintances attending to see her off in a fashion that would emphasise their regret at parting with the world-renowned contralto, even for the brief period to be spent by her in Australia.
Christchurch is supposed to be .the home of " culchaw." On the authority of the Triad, at Marie Hall's first concert there were exactly 112 people in the audience, and on the following evening there were only a little over 300. In inartistic Anckland, on the contrary, Manager Marcus had his. work cut out to find accommodation for the crowds who went to hear this charming young violiniste. So muoh for ••culchaw."
