Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting.

(Saturday, June Ist, Monday, June 3rd, and Saturday, June Bth.) ON Saturday the Great Northern Hurdle Race will be run and on the Monday following the Great Northern Steeplechase. This meeting is the final fixture of the season in- Auckland, and turf patrons are looking forward to the three days' racing at Ellerslie with keen interest. The centre of attraction is, of course, the Great Northern jumping double. There is good reason to anticipate that both the G-.N. Hurdles and the G-.N. Steeplechase will be exceptionally strong, fields, and that the contests will give sport equal to the oest of the past. The records of reccrt racing at Wanganui have been of special interest to Aucklanders, oi- account of the winning performances of sovo» al Great Northern candidates, whilst Takapuna has a simil.-ir, rlnmyh less pronounced, bearing tv xb- Fllerslit'rating'. Apart from tfjo two rr:ncipal jumping events, the A.R C. June programme is a s f rong nr« , the racing throughout iht» thrte rlav 1 - promises to be of the host. The double event totalisator .vill be ci en on each day — First dav, on theG.N. • Hurdles arid Cornwall Handicap ; second day. on the G. K. Steeplechase and Prince of "Wales' Handicap ; third dav, on the York "Welter and Winter Steeplechase — in each case the third and fourth races on the programme. Though not essential from a sporting point of view for winter racing, fine weather will be more than welcome by the many, as well as by the club. Whilst prediction at this season, to he moderately safe, might well_ point to storm, there is hope in the thought that as May was stormy, June may open fair, in which case nothing will be wanting tp make the meeting a success.
