THE WINTER SHOW.

ALL Auckland is flocking, om the Observer goes to press, to see the big Winter Show which, the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Society is holding in the Drill-hall, Rutland-street. The idea is an excellent one — a comprehensive exhibition of the products of the colony, brought to the citizens' very doors. — and both manufacturers and agriculturists, within the province and without, are supporting it enthusiastically.

From far and near have come con* tributions of local manufactures, dairy and agricultural produce and machinery, Maori and South Sea curios and arts apd crafts, horticultural and domestic exhibits, and a hundred and one other products of the province and the colony, interesting both to patriotic citizens and the casual sightseers. The glory of the collection is the splendid exhibit sent by the Agricultural Department, illustrating the valuable work done at the Waerenga and Kuakura experimental farms, which are in the charge of Tin army of experts, all eager to give information to farmers and others that will be valuable to persons interested in the miuutise of the fruit, bee, vine and other industries ; but the coin* petition of the dairy factories runs it very close in practical value.

Altogether, there are 160 exhibits in the butter section, making the largest show of the kind yet held in the colony. Auckland has scored heavily in the awards, for the Opotiki Dairy Association has distanced the Taranaki and other southern competitors in one class, and the Whitford Park Com. pany heads the prize list in two other?. That the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. Mr McNab) should, in spite of stress of businesß, have travelled all the way from Wellingion to perform the inaugural ceremony is evidence of the importance with which the Show is regarded in the South. The doors will remain open until Saturday, and no one who is interested in the industrial welfare of the colony should fail to visit the Drill Hall.
