Avondale Jockey Club.

The Avondale Jockey Club rung; clown the curtain on their '06-'O7 season last week in a fashion that eclipsed all previous results. Viewed from a racing point, the fixture r>rovided a couple of days' excellent sport, the ruling features being good fields and spirited contests, with here and there an especially exciting battle at the finish. The meeting was well patronised, and the Club officials did their part to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of their patrons in a manner that left little room for criticism, so that with a good programme and efficient management the bill was filled. Financially, the success achieved scored a lea^> The attendances, the big entries and satisfactory acceptances —these themselves would ensure, with ordinary results as to totalisator revenue, a fairly good return but the flight into records which gave the Club an increase of £9416 adds pilt to the coffers that will be all the more acceptable from its being quite unanticipated.

Millie was a strong tip for the Autumn Handicap on the second day at Avondale. but got only third place. She had a strong following from the Waikato. Sermon, now racing in India, is considered to be the best sprinter ever seen in that country. In England he was considered a rogue and was sold for £500.

Lionheart has been nominated for the Wanganui Steenleejiase. Century Hurdles and Final Steeplechase. He with his stable mates Liauid Air, Contour and Leolanta, is clue at his owner's place, Palmerston North, from Australia.

Tui was catching Loch Fyne in the Avondale Steeplechase -when he fell about three furlongs from home. This gave Loch Fyne the race without any fighting. Bar falling, Tui would have had something to say at the finish .

Carl Rosa was the hero of the Avondale Meeting, winning the leading handicap on each day. He was in splenciiu condition, and whilst"his form on the opening day was an eveopener, his win on the second day was looked for by the majority. v

G. Price appears to have had a wonderful escape at Manawatu Meeting. His mount. Aramento, fell over Hiro in the Hack Flying, and as Aramento was well to the front at the time, the tail of the tield behind galloped over Price, who, however, was unhurt.
