Ladies and Gentlemen, Having been requested by a number of Electors within this Ward to be nominated for the seat now vacant, I beg to intimate that I am a Candidate for the vacancy in the City Council caused by the elevation of Mr. Alfred Kidd to the Mayoralty. For the past 23 years" I have seen the steady growth of this City in wealth, population, and importance, and knowing that large areas of virgin soil still remain unoccupied north and south of the city, and immediately tributary to it, 'I fsee [no reason why :that healthy growth should not continue. I would, therefora, deem it an honour to take an active part in laying the foundations of this fast-growing and beautiful city. I desire but to see these foundations laid in a broard and liberal spirit. Many peopla are allarmed at the recent extension of municiprl but if there be honesty and fairness in municipal government I see nb cause for alarm in this extension of interest. Should you honour me by returning me as one of your members, I shall try to be on the side of honesty and fairness. My wish will be not to degrade the office of councillor.
