RAGLAN

The bachelors of Raglan gave a most enjoyable plain and fancy dress ball at the Raglan Hall on the 21st ult. when a pleasant evening was thoroughly enjoyed. About 40 couples were present. The following were the most conspicuous costumes ; — Mrs Mathias, Education ; Miss Gilmer, Swiss Peasant ; Miss Floyd, My Sweetheart ; Miss Nayer, Nancy Lee ; Miss Rastrick, Grace Darling; Violet Burgess, Colleen Bawn; Miss Burgess, Charlotte Corday ; Miss Moon, Starlight ; Miss Ellis, Spring : Miss L. Sutton, Flower Girl ; Miss Savage, Swedish Lady ; Miss Allwood, Red Cross Nurse ; Miss M. Robinson, Autumn ; Miss Vernon, School Girl. Mr E. Wallis, Nigger ; Mr G. Rastrick, Nigger; Mr E. A. Sutton, West Indian Planter; Mr C. Sutton, Blue Jacket; Mr F. Moon, N.Z. Commissioner; Mr W. Millar, Volunteer; Mr E. C. Houchen, Hunchback ; Mr A. Graham, White-eyed Kaffir ; Mr C. Phair, Shepherd ; Mr C. Matthew, Masher. Regarding the dresses worn I consider that Education, Red' Cross Nurse, and the Flower Girl were the three best, in the order named. Nancy Lee was also very charming, Swiss Peasant too was very fetching but hardly robust enough for the character.. .What made C. M. pile it on so heavy in the ball-room ? Far too public to be nice C. .Who was the boy doing the big mash with A.D in the corner. What price are the feather fans, F. dear. What will I.N. say ? .*j^..
