THE COMING CAMPAIGN.
There is some little change in the electoral situation this week. The Trades a nd Labour Council has definitely adopted Mr Tudehope as their candidate, and it now remains to be seen whether the Liberal Electoral Committee will follow suit. There seems, some doubt after all whether Mr Withy will really run for the City. Messrs Shera, Porter, Napier, Thompson and Crowther all have announcements in this issue. One or two other candidates are talked of, but there seems nothing very definite. Mr Crowther's manifesto has created a good impression. Parnell is quiet. Mr Lawry has declared. Sir George Grey hangs back. Eden is active. Mr Niccol is on the stump, and seems inclined to promise much. Mr Mitchelson is due, and Mr Dargaville is up country. Mr Jackson Palmer has opened the campaign for Waitemata, and has made a splendid start. He had an enthusiastic vote of confidence first night. Sir Maurice O'Borke and Mr Buokland are both announced for Manukau, and will have a hard tussle. Mr W. S. Allen is coquetting, but no one seems very anxious for him there. At Eranklyn, Mr Harris, who is the Liberal candidate, and who will make the running warm, is hard at work. Mr Massey is said to be the Opposition candidate, but he seems afraid to declare himself. At Marsden, Mr E. Thompson Beema likely to have next door to a walk over. He has a good record of past service to point to. Mr Cadman seems safe for Waikato. There is nothing new in connection with the other seats this week. Hon. Mr Ward will be in Auckland before the eleotions, and will probably address a public meeting in Auckland.
