MANGERE.
The Maagere Mutual Imps, havejopened their session '93, and .judging from the attendance at the meetings so far, the society bids fair to be as popular as ever. Mr W. F. Massey has been re-elected pre"dent, Mr J. Montgomerie, secretary, Mr M. M. Kirkbride, treasurer ; Mrs Mellsop, Messrß E. Hall, E. Allen, J Scott, and F. Andrews, members of committee. The annual report submitted at the opening meeting showed a largely increased attendance on previous sessions and a credit balance. At the next meeting essays were read by Mr E. Hall and Mrs Mellsop. Mr Hall's essay was on ' Self Education,' and was written in an able and entertaining style, full of thoughtful suggestions, and illustrated by quotations and anecdotes from almost every conceivable source, the whole presenting an intellectual treat. Mrs Mellsop chose for her essay the subject of 'Mutual Improvement,' pointing out the many advantages accruing from a society existing . for that object and urging members in their debates always to show a spirit of courtesy towards each other. DuriDg the evening recitations were given by Miss Heron and Mr J. Montgomerie.
