City Council notified that quarterly water-meter supply accounts rendered require to be paid on or before the Ist prox. Amongst the ' things not generally kaown ' locally is the fact that Auckland is flooded just, now with bogus violins. Many of these instruments are labelled • Amati,' ' Straduarius,' or bear the name of some equally well-known maker, but as these labels are manufactured with even greater facility than the violins in which they are pasted, they must be ' taken with a grain of Bait, 1 too. There are several violins on sale in Auckland at the present for which fancy figures are asked, and which are not worth a tenth of the value placed upon them by their owners. Do the latter know their true value ? Probably. Violins may be had new at the warehouses which, with a very, little c faking,' may take in and do for the verdant amateur.
