MATAKANA
A grand soiree and concert took place iv the Lowe Matakana schoolroom. The inclemency of the weather detained many who woiild otherwise have b^en there, but t'-e room being small it was well filled. A lengthy programme was gone throHgh, of which the items were grently applauded, and it was as good an evening's outing as was anticipated, the only thin< that was lacking in the programme being a dance, in which, many of our young people were disappointed. I conclude with giving the ladies who provided the te-i the greatest praise for the manner in which that part of the programme was carried out. What made our young masher from the cliim leave his horse the other aide of the river ? Wa» it to do a mash going home, or was the road round too long? There was a great lot of mashinsr going on in all s ages, from sweet sixteen to the shady side of fifty. Why did our young sportsman, Bob from Mullet Point, fail to attend our soiree ? Was he afraid of the Matakana boys ? As there is shortly to be another concert in our midst, the storeman prophesies a rise in the price of jam What made the middle aged co-iple walk home in preference to going by boat ? Yum, yum ; it was well that matches were plentiful.
