Then thunders muttered tones of woe ; The air with gas was foetid : Convulsive Nature gave a shock, Mount Smart began to groan and rock ; 1 The Speaker was defeated !' Sir Harry lost his friendly gout, And shook where he waR seated ; An earthquake came and shook the land. (Ah ! m»ny voters couldn't stand) ' Thfi Speaker was defeated !' Perhaps a little sleep will ease A thrashing well completed ; Perohance the world will wag again, Although we hear this howl of pain — ' The Speaker is defeated !'
