Changes in R. C Church.
It has been stated on authority that the Rev. Osmond Egan, Mus. Doc, the able and popular conductor of St. Patrick's choir, is to be appointed to the oharge of the diocese of Ponsonby. This appointment however flattering to Dr. Egan, will not be favourably regarded by the congregation of St. Patrick's. A deputation from the choir waited upon Bishop Luck and asked that the proposed transfer be re-considered, and his Lordship gave them his promise to weigh carefully their representations and to reveal his decision during the week. The labours of the Doctor in connection with the choir, of which he is director, are too well known to need recapitulation ; that those labours are most successful is evidenced by the crowds of other denominations who assemble at St. Patrick's, Sunday after {Sunday to ' hear the music' There is no more popular priest in Auckland than Father Egan, and while I cannot but hope that he may be spared to St. Patrick's choir, I unreservedly congratulate him upon his appointment, and hope that he may long live to watch over the spiritual interests of his flock. Father Lenihan, of Ponsonby, will take charge of Parneil Diocese. Feeling reference to his departure was made after vespers at Sacred Heart Church by Rev. Waiter McDonald.
