ROUND THE CHURCHES.
Visitors to St. Andrew's Church complain of the ugly and uncomfortable pews. Hardy Scots do not believe in' being at ease in Zion.'
All Saints' Maiden Manoeuvres realised £81, which will paint the church and parsonage, More 'painted Christians ' for Birch to denounce.
Pastor Birhch used his pulpit on tiunday last for the purpose of defending a brother minister accused by slanderers of grave impropriety with a married lady. He would have got credit for sincerity had he shown that he knew anything at all of the matter, or had it not been known that he and the slandered clergyman are at daggers drawn in the Ministers' Association.
The Wesleyan Church folkß are shortly to meet and decide what they shall do for those relatives of the late Mr Probert who were omitted irom his will. A generous recognition oi these relatives will be the best evidence that no undue clerical influence was at work ; and lest it should be supposed that my remarks on this subject have at any time been ' inspired ' by said relatives, I would now assure the trustees under the will that I have had no written or oral communication with any relative of Mr Jt'robert. The circumstance that some of my 1 facts ' were wide of the mark may be taken as proof of this. My sole desire was to set right what I took to be an injustic.
