City Hall Concerts.

Miss Amy Vaughan's Amazon Company scored another signal success at the City Hall on Saturday evening last. The programme was undoubtedly the best of the season, and conßißted of twenty or more varied and meritorious items, without counting the numerous encorea demanded by the large and enthusiastic audience present. Of the manner in which the performers acquitted themselves too much cannot be said, eaoh one Beaming thoroughly suited to the position he or she held. Amy also deserves a epecial word for her dressing of the participants in the opening Harvest scene, while too much cannot be said in favour of Mr Neville Thornton for hie artistic and realistic painting. A complete change of programme for the coming Saturday.

Examinations. — Those desirous of economising time in revising, we advise to place themselves under Mr Grant's guidance. He does not lecture, he teaches. No one that is not thoroughly competent teaches for him any special subjeot. The Auckland Trotting CluVb Summer Meeting is announced to be held at Botter's Paddock on Saturday 27th December, and Saturday 3rd January next. The programme for both days, which is a most attractive one, appearfl in another part of this issue. Pony-owners should note the date and terms of entry. We are pleased to hear that Mr Edwin Barker, of the late firm of Barker Bros., clothiers, Karangahape Road, has removed to more extensive and convenient premises in Queen-street, hoping to keep up a great sale, and the goods are well-known to be of good value, being imported from the best manufacturers. The following announcement appears in the ' Missing Friends ' column of Reynolds' 8 newspaper of 27th July :— 1 F this should meet the eye of Arthur Sims, his son wishes to 1 know whether he is living' or dead. Evidently the devoted son is a believer in Spiritualism, and has also a sublime faith that Reynolds circulates in another world. Do they issue an edition, printed on asbestos, for circulation down below? Anyway, as Reynolds may not reaoh the realm above, I give Arthur Sims's son the benefit of this free ' ad.' in the Observer which is certain to meet the eye of all the denizens on the ahining shore.
