Mr J. L. Toole.
The greatest of living comedians made his first bow to an Auckland audience on Tuesday evening last, and he has no reason to complain of the heartiness of his reception. A crowded Opera House oheered for nearly five minutes upon hia entrance in the character of ' Chawles,' and he was reoalled at the close of eaoh act to receive fresh plaudits. Per contra the audience have every cause for satisfaction in the wonderful display of oomio acting displayed by the veteran. In Byron's comedy, as in the faroe v loi on Parle Franoais,' Toole was simply perfection, and he is supported by a company of more than average ability, including handsome men and beautiful women. The Auckland public may there* fore confidently go to the Opera House, not only to enjoy the unique pleasure of hearing and seeing the premier comedian of the century, but to witness the best comedies produced in the best style. ' The Don ' is on the boards to-night ; but there are to be continual changes of pieces during the brief season.
