Savings Bank.
With this issue we publish the balance-sheet of the Auckland Savings Bank, one of the most prosperous and popular institutions in the colony, and a glance at it will serve to give the reader a slight idea oi' the magnitude of its transactions. For instance, the deposits last year amounted to .£319.061 18s 3d, which, together with the interest, makes a grand total of ,£369, 724. The withdrawals amounted to .£337,196. leaving at the end of the year to the credit of depositors .£471,057, held by 13,542 depositors. The increase in the deposits as compared with last year is highly satisfactory, while the gross funds credited to depositors tot up to .£471, 057 15s 2d, including undrawn interest. Such a state of things bespeaks wonders for the assiduity shown by the popular manager (Mr ft. Cameron) and his energetic staff, while it also conclusively proves that the institution possesses the confidence of the industrial classes. The Savings Bank has undoubtedly done much to induce thrift amongst the working classes, and the success it has attained is hig-hly commendable.
