SOCIAL GATHERING AT TAURANGA.

A correspondent writes : 'A most enjoyable Social Gathering took place in Murphy's Hall, Devonport Road, Tauranga, on July 23rd. It took the form of a welcome home to Mr F. and Miss R. Clarke, who are on a visit to Tauranga after an absence of three years. The following were the Committee of Management: Messrs Duthie, Clarke, J. Snodgrass, Ward, and Thompson. The Committee left nothing undone that could be done, and the result was that our Social was pronounced to be one of the best that has ever been held here. The Hall was decorated superbly ; the floor was in excellent order, and the refreshments the best procurable and ad lib. Dancing commenced at 8.30 p.m., and was kept up with great gusto till 1.30 a.m. Mr Ward acquitted himself as M.C. to the satisfaction of all. The music (which was excellent) was entrusted to Mesdames Morris and J. Snodgrass, and Misses R. Clarke, Vogan, K. Vercoe, and M. Wrigley, and Messrs J. Snodgrass and Clarke. The following ladies were present: Mesdames Morris, J. Snodgrass, Jordan, Turner, Simpson, Vogan,, Hoyte, Baker, and Hetty, Misses Clarke (3), Clayton, Conroy, Barclay (2), Hoyte (2), Tunks, McDonald, Vercoe (2), Wrigley,

Vogan, Mocatta, Turner, Marley and Mulgan. I will leave. the description of the many beautiful costumes worn by the ladies to a more able pen than mine. I noticed, however, a great preponderance of blue of every shade imaginable, and worked up into all kinds of fantastic trimmings, bows, flounces, kiltings, sashes, &c.
