FESTIVE DOINGS AT RANGIRIRI
A most enjoyable dance took place at the Rangiriri school-room on the 3rd inst. Upwards of 40 gentlemen were present, but there was a lamentable scarcity of ladies, and partners consequenty were at a premium. Dancing was commenced at 9 p.m., and was kept up till 3 a.m. A stranger most efficently discharged the onerous duties of M.C The music was excellent, the two performers being importations from Mercer. The intervals between the dances were agreeably enlivened by songs, contributed by Mrs Fuller, and Messrs Hooton and Paulsworth. Opinions were divided as to whether Miss Kannard or Miss Denny should be awarded the palm as ' belle of the ball.' The following is a list of a few of the most noticeable dresses :— -Mrs "Walker, black silk ; Mrs Fuller, black lustre, satin trimmings to match ; Mrs Paulsworth, brown cashmere ; Miss Bragman, fawn cashmere ; Miss Gall, grey lustre, maroon bows ; Miss Mary Kannard, cream nun's veiling skirt, black velvet bodice ; Miss Kannard, handsome blue satin skirt, black silk velvet bodice.
