TAFFY NOT A WELSHMAN.

Apropos of St. David's Day, a very good story has reached, us of a divergence of opinion between a man and his wife about their nationality. The good man's name is verysuspicious of his having descended from the Ancient Britons, and the amiable lady, ifc ought to be said, is evidently a lineal descendant of those barons who gained their titles and estates in the grand old county x>f Glamorgan. " I tell you what it is, Evan j^f ' you say you are a Welshman, I'll never go with you to a party again so long as I live." " Why, my dear, you are as direct a descendant of Jenkiu ap Thomas as lam ! And I am surprised that, like Stanley, you are inclined to deny your nationality. I think it is something to be proud of to be of Welsh, descent." Argument, however, was only thrown away on the good lady, and the discomfited Taffy, who had been dreaming happydreams about wearing the leek on St. David's Day, and looking forward with pleasurable anticipations to the applause he should receive when he got up to make a speech, had to promise he would .say nothing, and if anybody asked him if he was a Welshman to say "no,' 1 before his better half put on her bonnet to go to the feast. Plow glorious it is to be under petticoat government. Poor Evan Evans says he -is a Welshman, indeed, to goodness, all the same ; only he couldn't say so because his^vife would make him " eat the leek " before the assembled crowd.
