One day last week a prospective bridegroom (whom you all know) took the only sister of his fiancee to a Queen-street jeweller, in order that she might help him to choose some jewellery which he intended as a surprise for his ladylove. The girl amused herself by examining a case of splendid rings, and (whisper it not in Ponsonby) wore one oj these on her finger when she left the shop. Her future brother-in-law lias had, of course, to pay for the ring, and there is little doubt that his opinion of the family he is marrying into has been lowered in proportion with the value of the ring. It was no bourgeois family in which this occurred. The delinquents occupy a high position in society, and the jeweller has been literally sivorn to secrecy.
