I should like to impress upon the Ponsonby Highway Board the advisability of having half-a-dozen lovers' seats in St. Mary's Road, instead of only one as at present. Kvery evening, just after dusk, there is a rush made for the " nook," as it is called, and when the fortunate pair are seated, a number of equally love-sick couples may be seen wandering listlessly away from the spot. Again, yoii know, when you see a fond couple sitting on the damp grass you can depend upon it that there will be one more case of diptheria or severe cold somewhere. Now, how pleasant it would be to see half-a-dozen happy couples occupying the same number of secluded lovers' seats every evening, and how the members of the board, on their walks along the road in question, would feel repaid by hearing frequent ejaculations of unextinguishable love from the devoted swains, or perhaps a fond avowal now and again, such as the following, which greeted my astonished ears the other evening: — "Precious darling, just another kiss ** *. Now, we must say good night, pet, because, you know, pa doesn't allow you to stay out late. (Time, 11 o'clock.) Another kiss, ducky, yum, yum, yum."
