A mean old man, I can't call him gentleman, came to me the other day, and said he had a good story for the Observer. What do ypu think it was ? Why the history of a family squabble between his wife and a young lady who had been residing in their house as a friend. How the thing arose it matters not, suffice it to say this excellent couple thought the girl had treated them disrespectfully, and in order to punish her, asked me to " give her a rub." The despicable meanness and cowardice of the request astounded me. The old brute's name was not, of course, to appear, or even be indicated, but he thought it would "do no harm " to publish the lady's. I didn't say much, but I don't think that party will come to the Observer office again.
