A queer story is told about a certain medico in the Waikato, AAdio, some folks say, all but brought a valuable life to a premature ending the other day. Dr. • , it appears, occasionally indulges in a glass, and one evening, not long ago, after a nip or tAvo at the hotel, he Avent into his surgery in the dark with the intention of having yet another eye-opener. Hoav the catastrophe happened is not known, but, by some mischance, the unfortunate man got hold of the Avrong bottle, and, before he comprehended Ayhat he was doing, had tilted Avell nigh a quartern of laudanum down his throat. Of course help had to be summoned instanter, and there Avas a tremendous how-dye-do. The great thing Avas to keep the unfortunate medico aAvake, and sundry friends and patients marched him up and dovm till the droAvsiness wore. off. It Avas a hard job, and lasted a long time.
