HANHAM DEFEATS HOLDER. HEAVY PUNISHMENT INFLICTED. [By Telegraph. —Press Association]. TIMAEU, Sept, 30. In ■ a contest for the middleweight professional boxing championship last night, G. Allan (Gisborne), the holder of the title, was defeated by C. Hunlnam (Waimate). The pair met recently, Avhen the judges gave the decision to Allan, although the crowd thought Hanliam won.

The fight was not lively until tho closing stages, when Allan forced tho pace to make up leeway, dhe 14th. round saw the pair fighting solidly, with Ilanham getting the better of the exchanges. In the final round, Ilanham landed a hard right to the jaw, sending Allan through the ropes. He came back groggy and Hanham inflicted heavy punishment, winning by a good margin.
